02 Apr Why I joined St John Ambulance Raheny Division
Hi everyone, Shannon Ryan here. I wanted to share with you all, my story of why I joined St John Ambulance last year.
At that time, I was still in Scoil Chiarian and they was there if I asked if I wanted to learn a bit more about First Aid. I was always interested in helping other people so I went along to the Raheny Division of St John Ambulance one Friday night to check it out.
If you are under 18 then you are called a cadet and we meet every Friday evening from 7 to 9pm for training. You get to learn lots of useful skills and you make good friends at the same time.
Last February, we attempted a Guinness World record in Croke Park. The challenge was to try tie 400 arm slings in just one hour. We practised all the time trying to get quicker. Cadets from all over Ireland joined in on the attempt and it was a great day.
I think that other people should also join St John Ambulance especially if they enjoy doing First Aid and caring for people. You get you learn loads of new skills. It’s great fun as well because you get to go trips around Ireland and other activities.
